Kemical Dosing Ltd supplies lime dosing plants and ancillary equipment, primarily to the water industry. They design, supply, install, commission and service their plants with a team of engineers built over the last twenty years, ensuring their turnkey projects are successful and reliable.
They have refined a dosing process that doses sewage sludge cake both constantly and consistently. This enables economical usage and process achievement, negating waste or contamination caused by additives escaping to the atmosphere.
Project Details
Kinson Sewage Treatment Works (STW) near Bournemouth is owned by Wessex Water and is part of the Stour catchment area, which operates multiple water recycling centres and sewage pumping stations. It treats a significant volume of sewage and contributes to the overall wastewater management in the region.
The contract managed by Trant Engineering required the supply and installation of a Liquid Lime Dosing Plant. The plant was specified to meet Wessex Water’s requirement to provide sufficient alkalinity for nitrification.

Our Impact & Solution
To ensure reliable and optimal operation of the plant, industrial pipe insulation and a trace heating system were required for the slurry and final effluent lines in a bunded area. Jade was appointed as the industrial insulation contractor for the project, given our extensive experience in both the water and wastewater industries. As an insulative jacket manufacturer, we were also required to supply valve jackets, along with flange jackets, to enable easy access for maintenance. These are made at our Rotherham HQ to ISO standards.
Having reviewed the drawings and specification, our solution involved designing a suitable trace heating system and choosing 30mm mineral wool for the pipework insulation. The cladding used was 0.5mm aluzinc cladding, given its mechanical strength and anticorrosive properties. Both the valves and the flanges had grey insulated jackets fitted with 50mm rockwool with velcro fastenings.

- Ensured that pipelines were protected from freezing, ensuring operational resilience no matter what the weather conditions.
- Minimised expansion and contraction due to heat loss/gain that would put undue stress on joints.
- Helped safeguard the plant from upstream back-ups and untreated discharges that might breach environmental permits.
- Protected critical infrastructure from corrosion and mechanical damage. This clearly increases operating lifespan and lowers long-term operating costs.
