Industrial Insulation at Worcestershire Sewage Treatment Works

Industrial Insulation at Worcestershire Sewage Treatment Works

Severn Trent Water are one of the UK’s major water utility companies and runs a large network of both water and wastewater treatment plants. These supply safe drinking water and treat sewage for roughly 4.6 million customers throughout the Midlands. Its operations include pumping water from rivers and reservoirs, treating it, and then transporting it through thousands of miles of pipes.

On their wastewater side, they collect and treat sewage before safely returning it to the environment. This involves maintaining infrastructure, fixing leaks, managing flooding risk, whilst meeting strict quality and environmental standards set by Ofwat and the Environment Agency.

As part of that work, Severn Trent appointed AFECO as a contractor to work on one of their Bishampton sewage treatment works. AFECO are an innovative specialist engineering services provider, offering cleantech products. They specialise in the design and delivery of process, mechanical, electrical and ICA engineering-based projects within the water, wastewater and waste treatment sector.

Our Solution

Having reviewed the drawings, climatic conditions, and specification from the client, we evaluated the thermal efficiency required and chose 40mm Paroc stone wool insulation as the best option on a price/performance basis.

The DN80 and DN100 tertiary solids removal (TSR) pipework was then protected with Aluzinc cladding, given its mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. We also designed, manufactured and supplied high-quality removable insulated jackets with Velcro fasteners for the likes of valves and flanges to enable easy access for maintenance.
